Patent / Proprietary Ayurvedic (ASU)

A Patent/Proprietary Ayurvedic (ASU) medicine is a finished product containing one or more ingredients of the Ayurveda, Siddha, or Unani (ASU) systems of medicine, manufactured exclusively by the licensee (the company). 🌿Fixed Formulation: Unlike classical Ayurvedic medicines whose formulations are prescribed in ancient, authoritative texts, a Patent/Proprietary medicine has a specific, fixed, and unique formulation developed and owned by the manufacturer. Novelty/Uniqueness: The formulation is often considered "patent" or "proprietary" because it is a new combination, a modification of a classical formula, or a unique process of manufacture, giving the manufacturer exclusive rights over its production and sale. Legal Definition: In India, these products are defined under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940, and rules thereunder. They are required to clearly state the active ingredients on the label. Examples: Common examples include herbal capsules, tablets, syrups, oils, or creams that are sold under a brand name and are not mentioned in the ancient Ayurvedic texts.
